"Ged McLean"
For the third episode of The Eco Innovators, Stewart Muir talks with Ged McLean, the trailblazing executive director of the BC Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy. Ged is tirelessly focused on creating and implementing solutions to combat climate change. From academia to product innovation, his diverse experience paints a picture of a man dedicated to our planet.
From his role as Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria, Ged expanded his sphere of influence by founding Angstrom Power, a venture aimed at developing novel hydrogen fuel cell technology for portable applications.
In the years that followed, he took on leading roles at the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions and the citizen-led Permafrost Carbon Feedback Action Group. He has leveraged his knowledge and experience to influence technology and business innovation aimed at decarbonization in numerous advisory, board, and consulting roles.
Today, he leads the BC Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy, an organization founded in 2021 that stands at the forefront of the clean energy revolution. With an impressive $105M raised to date, the Centre is a hotbed for the development and scaling of home-grown clean energy solutions, not just in Canada but across the globe.
The Centre works hand in hand with innovators, corporations, academic institutions, policy makers, investment groups, and Indigenous communities, all to find smart, impactful ways to drive us closer to a net-negative carbon future.
Ged is a man on a mission, translating brilliant ideas into tangible actions that will mitigate the effects of climate change and help us adapt to its impacts.
